Alex Acuña

Real Estate Project Manager

Alex has worked on anti-displacement strategies in Los Angeles, Boston, Mexico City, the Bronx, and here in the Bay. As AST’s Real Estate Project Manager, Alex cultivates relationships to secure property donations and bequests, distributes CalHome Down Payment Assistance, conducts pre-assessments of potential properties, and develops long-term strategies for AST’s growth of land stewarded for artists and culture bearers. He is a proud 4th-generation East Bay resident and the child of artists/creative entrepreneurs. His wife describes him as “creatively ambitious,” and “spatially optimistic” when it comes to his creative practices, hobbies, and collections that will probably definitely culminate in the production of art some day.

Prior to joining AST, Alex served as a Stewardship Coordinator at the Oakland Community Land Trust where he helped bring new families into homeownership, supported tenant-to-owner pathways, strengthened internal systems, and facilitated over 100 workshops on CLTs and community real estate. He is also shaped by his experience as an anti-foreclosure and neighborhood organizer with the Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment (ACCE). Alex holds a BA in Urban and Environmental Policy from Occidental College and a Master's in City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
